In the Strait of Hormuz, roughly a tenth of the world’s ship traffic passes through, and UNCTAD notes that an immediate drop in traffic, over 95%, has made energy, fertilizer, and food more expensive, underscoring the corridor's outsized role in global supply chains. It links this to UNCTAD's Trade and Development Board, which launched its high-level segment the same day in Geneva.
Overview of the Session
The 73rd session of the Trade and Development Board of UNCTAD is going to take place from 14th to 25th September 2026 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, under the theme of “Resilient Supply Chain.” This board is constituted to function as the governing body of UNCTAD between its quadrilateral conferences and has the role to meet in Geneva on an annual basis and oversee the work of UNCTAD.
Details of Registration and Attendance
Participants are required to register online to be included in the list of participants. States that are members of the Board need to inform the UNCTAD secretariat of the names and the titles of their delegates and upload credential letters through the registration portal.
The logistics of the meeting include in-person attendance, but those who do not wish to attend can listen to the meeting via live audio stream. However, remote participants will not be permitted to make interventions. The links for streaming will be sent to those who register by email before the start of the meeting. The materials for the meeting are available in six languages of the UN: English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, and Arabic.
