According to the latest World Bank Pink Sheet Commodities Markets report, commodity prices were stable in July, as the increase in natural gas prices in Europe offset the declines in energy and metals prices.
The energy price index fell by 1.1 percent in July. Prices of coal declined by 4.8 percent, while crude oil prices decreased by 2.2 percent. The only exception was natural gas, with prices surging 19.1 percent in Europe.
Drinks Prices Soared While Prices of Metals Were Down
Meanwhile, agricultural prices climbed 2.6 percent, driven by a 17.4 percent jump in prices of drinks, offsetting the decrease of 0.3 percent in food prices and a 4.3 percent decline in fertilizer prices. Metal prices, in contrast, were lower by 2.8 percent, with aluminum prices down 8.1 percent and lead and nickel down 5.3 percent each. Prices of precious metals were down 5.2 percent on the month, with silver down 11.8 percent and platinum down 6 percent.
Thus, the report highlights the mixed nature of the commodity price movements, with different regional energy markets and the wide range of drink prices offsetting each other, contributing to the stability of overall prices.
