Nearly two years of tireless conflict have left Gaza in a fully developed hunger emergency, in which United Nations agencies have confirmed famine for the first time in the region. According to a joint statement by UNICEF, the World Food Programme (WFP), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), food has collapsed, while hair is growing at the speed described as "frightening".

The latest Integrated Food Safety Classification (IPC) analysis found that more than 640,000 people are facing famine-level food insecurity, a figure expected to move forward if human reach does not improve. Assistance officials warned that the families are slightly more alive than animal fodder or unsafe water, while many children have gone uninterrupted. Health workers report a rapid increase in malnutrition rates among children.

UNICEF estimates that more than 12,000 children were the most malnourished monthly in July since the conflict began. The rate of ruin due to lack of nutrition has been multiplied several times since the beginning of 2025. The crisis is being fueled by repeated displacement, restrictions on humanitarian delivery, and the close collapse of local markets. United Nations agencies said, "Serious obstacles in almost two years of struggle and assistance have left no way to feed people in Gaza".

International aid groups have called for humanitarian corridors, without thinking, to bring food, medicine, and clean water to Gaza. Without immediate action, they warn, Gaza’s struggle can result in more casualties from the cities of Khan Younis and Dir al-Balah. The declaration is a serious milestone in the struggle, stating how the toll of war is now measured not only in the number of casualties but also in the deaths of a wider hunger and stopping child.
