The Gross National Happiness (GNH) Index is a survey that measures the happiness and well-being of a country’s population on a yearly basis. On the report of this index, the country is ranked highest to lowest happiness index all over the world. The happiness index is a self-reported index that is rated by the people of the country on a scale of 0 to 10 range. This index also measures the other aspects like social support, freedom, human life, and generosity. The Gross National Happiness index was first introduced by Bhutan’s fourth king, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, in 1972. Then the GNH was adopted by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network in 2011, calling for a “holistic approach to development” that promotes the World Happiness Index.
